vintage and truffles make me smile...(libby)

two items i have recently come into the possession of. one from a dear friend of mine, the other i just purchased at my favorite vintage store ever.
these things (a coat and a pair of shoes) are just so wonderful i keep randomly grinning. they have the same effect on my as Lindt chocolate. and that's the true spirit of the holidays...appreciating good clothing. and really really good truffles.
that was a joke. partially.
okay.
first, a beautiful quilted blazer. thank you, Lou. thank you thank you thank you.

and, gorgeous leather vintage lace-up boots. i am in love.

Youth and Beauty (Kat)

While in NYC, I visited the Brooklyn Museum. They have an exhibit up called: Youth and Beauty, Art of the American Twenties. (up until Jan. 29th). It is a really amazing show, and you should definitely see it if you are in the area.
The first thing that struck me was how innovative and new wave so much of the art was. In the twenties, artists found the sensuality in objects like leaves and shells, and would create art that dealt with race, sexuality, and the conditions of the poor.
The exhibit's name is part deceiving, since it held pictures of the old, and those of non-conventional beauty (the ugly?), but it ultimately showed how beauty can be relative to the observer, -and in a time that was known for letting loose- was changing every day.

here are some of the highlights from the exhibit:

Luigi Lucioni (American, 1900–1988). Paul Cadmus, 1928.

Nickolas Muray (American, 1892–1965). Gloria Swanson, circa 1925.

Aaron Douglas (American, 1899–1979). Congo, circa 1928.

George Wesley Bellows (American, 1882–1925). Two Women, 1924.

Joseph Stella (American, 1877–1946). The Amazon, 1925–26.
