All Hallow's Eve (by Libby)

I love Halloween. It is my all time favorite holiday for 3 reasons: the candy (OH MY GOD! THE CANDY), the costumes (OH MY GOD! THE COSTUMES!) and the history (OH MY GOD! THE-never mind). Halloween has been so commercialized in America, but it was originally a day to honor the dead, as it is one day before All Saints' Day, and two days before All Souls' Day.

The beautiful graveyard near where i live. My deepest respect to those of you who rest
 there now.
I also love graveyards, which are in so many ways linked to Halloween. I love how spooky they are. I love the idea that those spirits linger there, in a way. Oh, and they make for a great photo shoot ;)

It's a lovely day for trick-or-treating. And no, i am never too old for that.

Me next to the hill and the willow trees. That is one of my many wigs, worn in honor of all the deseased, platinum blondes out there.

One leather ballet flat and one Gianna Meliani snakeskin heel.

I am seriously considering a full perm and lots of bleach. Happy Halloween!

Tresses

So. We spend way to much time obsessing over our hair. So here we have a mini powerpoint presentation of the hair we're stuck with, the celebrity hair we sort of have, and the hair we wish we had. Enjoy.

KAT: I can't really dye my hair, because it's to dark.
My hair. It looks all dramatic, but normally it's just...not.

The fabulous Jaqueline Jablonski. I like to think we look alike. That's what i like to think.

The band Kitty, Daisey, and Lewis. They are siblings blessed with beautiful hair.

LIBBY: Kat and Aubrey are so wonderful. Kat bought me Enchanted Forest Green hair dye, and her and Aubrey's teamwork (?) resulted in me looking "like a celery stalk, in a good way" (Kat's words).

My wonderful new hair. I am proud to be celery.

Drew Barrymore. Ok, it's black and she's blonde with no bangs, but same idea. Technically.

"Let them eat cake". Or rather: "Let them gape at the incredible goergessness that is on my head". This is one of my many idols, Marie Antoinette, here exploiting her famously eccentric fashion sense. Rock on, mon cherie.

I Love Rock 'n' Roll! (by Libby)

While my loyalty lies in the 40's in terms of fashion and movies, i don't even care about the music from that decade. I think about things like fashion, movies and music in the sense of decades all the time. And my favorite decade music wise is absolutely the 80's. Oh, and the hair from that time? killer.
Some of my favorite artists of all time are Queen, Joan Jett, and The Bangles. And Blondie. Especially Blondie.
Debbie Harry. Gorgeous lead singer of Blondie. She is my hair idol, the queen of bleach.
HAIR!!!
Debbie with the rest of the band.
Joan Jett. "The first lady of rock". J'adore her music. Hence the title of this post.
Cover to the Joan Jett and the Blackhearts album, "I Love Rock 'N Roll" (1980).
Queen!!! The love of my life! The dude in the front, with the mustache is the lead singer Freddie Mercury
The lovely Bangles. The artists behind such hits as "Walk Like An Egyptian," and "Manic Monday."
Links for videos of these bands:

Blondie ("Heart of Glass")
Blondie ("Hanging On The Telephone")
Joan Jett ("Bad Reputation")
Queen ("We Will Rock You") ...the cape kills me every time ;) Freddie Mercury is like God.
The Bangles ("Walk Like An Egyptian")

I found a website called Simply Eighties.com. Who knew how awesome the world is sometimes? Simply Eighties.
The reason for there being no pictures of me today (i know, isn't that awful? do you miss me?) is that I'm saving my dandy new hairdo for our group post on Tuesday. aren't you excited??? well, you should be...

fantastic mr. fox (Kat)

I love Roald Dahl. He might just be my favorite author of all time. I eat candy when i read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I try to make things fly when  reading  Matilda, and when I read Fantastic Mr. Fox... I want to be a fox. I am not a fox.

That's the beauty of his books, you want to enter the world that your reading about. You want the full Roald Dahl experience.

Wes Anderson brings you the full Roald Dahl experience in his movie adaption of Mr. Fox. I love that movie, and you should all see it. It is awesome. It really is.

hand knit fox hat, H&M sweater, BDG pants, mum's old tango shoes (i wear my mum's shoes a lot), humane society cat.

We can't think of a clever title...

The theme of the day is music. We really, really, really hate "Top 40" music, so we're here to broaden your musical horizon. For you, we put together a playlist:

(Kat):
1. Cigarette Smoker Fiona by Arctic Monkeys
2. Seventeen Years by Ratatat
3. It's Not You, It's Me by Coconut Records
4. Landlocked Blues by Bright Eyes
5. Laughing With by Regina Spektor
6. Tiny Light by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
(Libby):
7. I Hate Myself For Loving You by Joan Jett
8. We Are The Champions by Queen
9. Johanna from Sweeney Todd

Look this stuff up on YouTube! We are way to lazy to attach links, or, god forbid, put the actual videos up ourselves. It's called homework, fine people.

Play It Again, Sam (by Libby)

Let me start off by saying I adore the 40s. Fashion wise. And movie wise.
Raise your hand if you've heard of Humphrey Bogart. He is an actor, and one of my 1940s idols. You may have seen him in one of the famous movies with his on/off-screen lover Lauren Bacall.

Bogart and Bacall in The Big Sleep (1946)

Bogie's also known for being the iconic Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon, Charlie in The African Queen (with Katherine Hepburn), and, in one of my favorite movies of all time, Casablanca, he plays Rick Blaine.

Bogie in Casablanca (1942). This scene is incredible, beautiful, and heartwrenching...

If these are not ringing any bells to you, you might as well get off the computer now. Twit.
Bogie was, in a way, a fashion icon. Sort of. Okay, maybe i'm stretching it. But he had this famous look: troubled eyes, the trenchcoat, and the fedora.
Ahh, classic. He makes me wish I was a super dramatic, fabulous secret agent. Me:

My Humphrey Bogart inspired fedora and my $15 trenchcoat (in a beauty pagent i would  be Miss Cheapskate).

I have "troubled" eyes. Ha ha ha.

i am not a ballerina (Kat)

its true, i'm not. in fact, i cant really dance at all. but, i still love ballet.
i have seen countless movies about dance companies, and i just find it all so magical. the way the dancers can move, and spin, and leap is amazing. this is coming from someone who can't touch her toes.
and don't even get me started on the outfits. i would dance just for the tutus alone.
since i'm too ashamed to go to a dance wear store to buy a tutu, i decided to make my own. using a giant roll of tulle, and my trusty sewing machine, i constructed something that at least looks like one.
did you know that tutus make great crowns?
now you do.

The Pilot

We are here to talk about fashion. And shoes, angry feminist views, and makeup tips. We started this blog to share our ideas, (and outfits) and talk about things. More specifically us, girls. Our days are filled with afternoon mochas, creating our outfits (on a budget), and working hard both in school and the real world. So yeah, there are two of us. We bring you irony, couture, and fabulous vintage boots.

now, to introduce ourselves:

LIBBY: this is me. if you can't tell, i don't like long car rides...
I am possibly a normal human being, but i have evidence to suggest otherwise.
For me, clothes are not to look hot, sexy, pretty, ugly, etc. They are (CLICHE ALERT!!) to express my feelings/moods. For instance, on a day I'm sad, i very well might wear something ridiculously bright or flamboyant, presumably to cheer myself up. Or i wear sweat pants and a theatrically torn black shirt. Which ever. On a day I'm in a great mood, i prefer stuff i feel good in, (wigs: yes, fedoras: no. tacky black and white faux-fur vest: yes, cardigan: god no, wheelies: yes, high heels: yes, ballet flats: um, no.) I just wanted an excuse to mention wigs and wheelies. Btw, did i mention i have a bright green wig. I have a green wig. Pictures to come.
So here you have it, folks. The legendary (green) Libby reveals the secrets to her madness. Oooo, exciting. Let me hear the applause...
Fine.

KAT: Lets see... i like Andy Warhol, Karen O, and everything Kathrine Hepburn ever wore.         i read Trollope, and  have every issue of Vogue, Marie Clair, Elle, and The New York Times Style Magazine since since 2009. They take up all of my book shelf, and i like to collage with them. NOT scrapbook, collage. i think Vincent Van Gogh was a much better draftsman than people give him credit for. and when i grow up, i want to talk to middle school girls about body image, and the history of beauty. i find that interesting.
i guess i should talk more about fashion... uh, i like vintage clothing (who doesn't?) and i own a lot of pretty dresses that i never wear. i have way to much gray in my closet, and my favorite item of clothing right now are my high-waisted cigarette pants from BDG. i guess that's all.

We do some posts together, and some apart, it will be more clear once we get into a pattern.
stay tuned-
